Children That Trained To Kill

These are series of photos taken by American photojournalist Steve McCurry. It is sad to see children whose destiny is to take guns and fight instead of playing with toys. These children are robbed of the most wonderful time in their lives, their childhood…

Russia Top Ten Military Machine

These are top ten defense technologies of Russia for 2011, according to National Defense magazine.

The RS-24 Yars, a thermonuclear intercontinental ballistic missile, takes the lead of the list. It was first tested on May 29, 2007 to replace the older R-36 and UR-100N that have been already used almost for 50 years. The RS-24 is a missile that is heavier than the current Topol-M (which can carry up to 10 independently targetable warheads).

The second place goes to the Sukhoi PAK FA which is a twin-engine jet fighter being developed by Sukhoi OKB for the Russian Air Force. The Sukhoi T-50 is the prototype for PAK FA. A fifth generation jet fighter, the T-50 performed its first flight 29 January 2010. The PAK FA has a reported maximum weapons load of 7,500 kg. It has an apparent provision for a cannon. It could possibly carry as many as two 30 mm cannons. It has two internal bays estimated at 4.6-4.7 meters by 1-1.1 meters.

Secret Russia Submarine Repairing Station

Welcome to a place that used to be a secret base for submarine repairing once and is a museum now.

The construction in the Balaclava bay is an underground protected complex engaged in repairing and protection of medium-sized diesel submarines. Construction of the object was launched in 1957 being over by 1961.

According to the preliminary project, the object had to consist of 4 dry docks and a dockyard where four medium-sized boats could be repaired simultaneously. Finally, only the dockyard and one dock were completed. A number of submarine shelters decreased, respectively.

Employees of the underground complex could repair submarines and then let them out through a special gateway right into the sea. The complex was also used as a bomb-shelter for one thousand people.

Sukhoi SU-35 - The Super Flanker

The Sukhoi Su-35 (Russian: Сухой Су-35, NATO reporting name: Flanker-E) is a single-seat, twin-engined supermaneuverability multirole fighter. It is a derivative of the Su-27 'Flanker', and was initially known as the Su-27M. More than a dozen of these were built with some used by the Russian Knights aerobatic demonstration team. The Su-35 had been offered to many countries, including India, Brazil and South Korea.

In the 1980s, Sukhoi was looking to upgrade its high-performance Su-27. The resultant Su-35 embodies aerodynamic refinements to give it more manoeuvrability, greatly enhanced avionics, longer range, and a more powerful engine. The first prototype, converted from a production Su-27, made its maiden flight in June 1988. The Su-35 was further developed into the Su-37, which has thrust-vectoring capabilities, and the Su-35BM, classed as 4++ generation fighter by its manufacturer. The new model entered into serial production as the Su-35S for the Russian Air Force in 2010.

At the moment, only 15 Su-27M/35 while only 6 Su-35S were built.

Meanwhile, Royal Malaysian Air Force did use a number of the earlier generation of Sukhoi Su-35, which is Su-30. Royal Malaysian Air Force after a close visit to see India's Su-30MKI, signed a deal to purchase 18 of Su-30MKM in May 2003. The first 2 Su-30MKMs were formally handed over in Irkutsk on 23 May 2007, later arrived in Gong Kedak airbase on 21 June.

As part of the contract, Russia sent the first Malaysian cosmonaut to the International Space Station in October 2007. Malaysia had 12 Su-30MKMs in service with 6 on order in November 2008. Malaysia has had problems with support for the aircraft so it might purchase spare parts from China. Almost at the end of this post, there will be few images of Malaysian Su-30MKM.

Nuclear Bombs Testing

Since the time of Trinity, which is the first nuclear explosion in 1945, nearly 2,000 nuclear tests have been performed, with the majority taking place during the 1960s and 1970s. When the technology was new, tests were frequent and often spectacular, and led to the development of newer, more deadly weapons.

Judging from the amount of nuke test done, I just can imagine the amount of radiation human kind had been exposed.

Starting in the 1990s, there have been efforts to limit the future testing of nuclear weapons, including a U.S. moratorium and a U.N. comprehensive test ban treaty. As a result, testing has slowed, though not halted, and there are questions about the future. Who will take over for those experienced engineers who are now near retirement, and should we act as stewards with enormous stockpiles of nuclear weapons?

Gathered here are images from the first 30 years of nuclear testing.

Upshot-Knothole Grable, a test carried out by the U.S. military in Nevada on May 25, 1953. A 280mm nuclear shell was fired 10km into the desert by the M65 Atomic Cannon, detonating in the air, about 500 feet above the ground, with a resulting 15 kiloton explosion. (U.S. Department of Defense)

Army Guys Funny Act

Army. Waking up at 6 A.M, arranging the bed, shaving, running at the training ground, in boots, stroke patients, gymnastic exercise, polling. Extreme conditions, extreme training, extreme hilarity. It's all there, and more than you ask for. Having a good sense of humour, then, becomes a survival technique. When you look at it, fun comes out in all directions, right?

The sarcasm is not helpful when you're in the army but when you are an observer, these images look very funny. Get your fix of funny pictures from the life in the military.
